E-commerce giant Amazon has announced plans to enable over $80 billion in cumulative e-commerce exports from India by 2030. This is 4x more than its pledge of enabling $20 billion in e-commerce exports by 2025, reflecting the strong potential and demand for ‘Made in India’ products.
Amazon aims to enable over $80 billion in e-commerce exports from India by 2030, four times its original goal of $20 billion by 2025.
The company plans to achieve this by supporting Indian MSMEs, manufacturers, and D2C startups through its Global Selling programme.
Amazon’s initiatives focus on expanding exports and empowering small businesses across India.
“This significant milestone will be driven by a combination of enabling exports through Amazon’s Global Selling programme for Indian MSMEs, manufacturers and D2C startups as well as sourcing Made-in-India products to be sold on Amazon’s global marketplaces,” Samir Kumar, country manager, Amazon India.
The demand for ‘Made in India’ products is high in categories such as home & kitchen, apparel & textiles, toys, health & nutrition supplements and Ayurveda products, Amazon said on its website.
Amazon is collaborating closely with the government, lakhs of Indian small businesses and D2C brands to achieve its ambitious exports enablement goal, which also aligns with the Indian government’s priority to increase MSME exports. Amazon Global Selling has been working at a district level for empowering unique regional MSMEs to sell products to customers in 200+ countries.
Last year, Amazon India signed a memorandum of understanding with the directorate general of Foreign Trade to support the latter’s ‘Districts as Export Hubs’ initiative (as outlined in India’s new Foreign Trade Policy), a mission to transform every district into an export powerhouse. Through these efforts, Amazon demonstrates its commitment to supporting India’s small businesses, helping them scale beyond borders and empowering them to play a crucial role in the country’s economic growth and job creation.
Over the last decade, Amazon has been connecting Indian businesses to customers across the world through Amazon Global Selling. Amazon Global Selling offers tools and solutions that can help Indian entrepreneurs and small businesses with cross-border trade. Since its launch in 2015, Amazon Global Selling has over 150,000 registered sellers from 200+ cities across India who are set to surpass $20 billion in cumulative exports from India by 2024-end.
Amazon’s ambitious 2030 commitment towards enabling e-commerce exports of $80 billion is one among a slew of initiatives that the company announced today at the fifth edition of its annual ‘Smbhav Summit’ in New Delhi. The Smbhav summit is part of Amazon’s efforts to celebrate, support, and empower India’s small businesses, aiming to accelerate their growth across India and the world.
At Amazon’s first Smbhav event in 2020, Amazon made three pledges to India. The company said it will digitise 10 million small businesses, create 2 million direct and indirect jobs and enable $10 billion in e-commerce exports by 2025 (later updated to $20 billion). Every year, Amazon has announced projects and programmes that take the company closer to these goals.
“Over the last four years, we have invested significant time and effort towards the pledges we announced at the inaugural Smbhav Summit in 2020. We are humbled to share that we have hit our pledge to digitise 10 million small businesses one year ahead of time and have enabled over 12 million small businesses to become a part of the digital economy. We have enabled nearly $13 billion in cumulative exports and have created nearly 1.4 million direct and indirect jobs in India,” said Samir Kumar, country manager, Amazon India.
