As a guest on Imran Ashraf’s chat show, starlet Merub Ali gave her poignant take on the pain of the end of a friendship.

“I have never been betrayed in a romantic relationship, but I have been betrayed by friends,” shared Merub. Without revealing specifics, she added, “That is the most painful part of friendship is when it all comes to an end – because during the time you were together, you spill everything from A to Z to your friends.”

Like others, Merub may have had her trust broken by the people she once trusted, but the starlet added that she is fortunate enough to now cherish a close circle of friends who have her back. “Thank God I have good friends now,” she said. “I have few friends, but they are very, very good friends of mine.”

Armed with her close-knit circle, Merub added that she does not devote excessive time dwelling on the people who have abused her trust in the past. “Maybe they were good people,” she mused. “Who knows? People make mistakes. I don’t think about it too much. I just forgive and leave it all to Allah.”

In line with her attitude of forgiveness, Merub mused that the pain of betrayal heals over time. “Of course it hurts,” she conceded, “but slowly and with time, there comes a point where you are able to see the other person as human and tell yourself to just let it go.”

The actor added that whilst she does not hold a grudge and can forgive people the people who hurt her, it comes at a cost. According to her, once a line has been crossed, it is not feasible to expect things to return to what they once were after a betrayal of trust.

“Forgive and then move on,” she said firmly. “Things can never be the same again.”

In addition to talking about friendship, Merub revealed that her career in the showbiz industry happened by chance during an illness in her teens.

“I had typhoid when I was 16, and had to get a drip day and night,” she recalled. “A nurse told me to send in my video to this place for an audition. She also called my mother to make sure I emailed it! After that, I did some modelling and then started acting.”

On the work front, Merub was recently seen in Sinfe Aahan, a show that also featured her singer-songwriter fiancé Asim Azhar.
